Our extra-curricular highlights

We are a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden School

Each week, our students actively engage in gardening within our school’s vegetable gardens and orchards—spaces lovingly created by both the children and our school community. Additionally, they spend one and a half hours weekly in our purpose-built school kitchen, where they prepare and share delicious, seasonally inspired dishes made from the fresh produce harvested from our gardens. These lessons culminate in a warm, family-style sharing and dining experience.

During both kitchen and garden sessions, students work in small groups on authentic, hands-on tasks, guided by our Kitchen Garden Specialists and classroom teachers. These activities also provide meaningful opportunities to develop literacy and numeracy skills in real-world contexts.

The students at Dundurrabin Public School take great pride in our garden and kitchen program. Each week, they are actively involved in growing, tending, harvesting, cooking, serving, and tasting the fruits of their labour. This program is an integral part of our weekly curriculum, not merely an occasional lesson.

Our school is honoured to be officially recognised as a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden School. To learn more, please visit the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation.
